SUMMARY: Key environmental benefits and removing barriers to growth.

LORENZA ROMANESE – European Industrial Hemp Association

Lorenza Romanese was born in Trieste, Italy, she graduated from the University of Gorizia with a Master of Arts in European Affairs. She speaks fluently four languages.

10 years of solid experience as policy advisor and communication manager at European level, from the oil and gas sector to the European Commission. Most recently, Lorenza led the European association of Independent Winegrowers, in the agricultural sector.

Lorenza Romanese will pursue EIHA’s scope: defend and represent the interests of European industrial hemp sector within European Union’s institutions.

This year the hot topics are: Tetrahydrocannabinol level in feed and food products, hemp extracts with CBD used in food and cosmetic products, CBD as Novel Food and the CAP Reform. As to the latter, CAP Reform is an opportunity for European producers to bring back the 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol level in industrial hemp so as to reduce the significant competitive disadvantage European farmers have compared to American, Canadian, Asian and Swiss producers.

Born in Trieste, Italy, Lorenza graduated from the University of Gorizia with a Master of Arts in European Affairs. She speaks fluently four languages. 10 years of solid experience as policy advisor and communication manager at European level.recently, Lorenza led the European association of Independent Winegrowers, in the agricultural sector

Mike Harlington (CTA) – The Critical Importance of Compliance

MIKE HARLINGTON

-CANNABIS TRADES ASSOCIATION

ctaukmike-harlington-headshot-ctauk

Mike is the current Chairman of the CTA, he was placed into this role by the Founders of the Association and current Directors.  As an independent with no active role in the CBD marketplace this independence has ensured that the CTA has grown based on honest, open and clear dialogue with no ties to any producer with the Authorities.

Since its inception in 2016 the CTA is now the largest association of its type in the world, dwarfing many other associations with around 750 Members, 2500 Sellers and several Associates, including Law Firms, Lab Equipment Manufacturers, Merchant Services Providers and Insurance Providers.  All of whom not only give preferential rates to CTA Members, but many also only supply CTA Members, this way they ensure that only legal compliant sellers have access to their services.

The CTA is the ONLY association listed in official UK government documentation and is widely regarded by the FSA, Trading Standards and MHRA as the only industry association and point of contact for any legal issues surrounding CBD. Indeed, the CTA is in active discussion with many governments around Europe and is a registered stakeholder with the EFSA, SANTE and The Horizontal Working Party on Drugs (HDG), as well of course MHRA, FSA, NICE, DoH and Home Office.

Mike finds the current confusion and recent intervention by the FSA as the industries own doing, as he warned that this was likely to happen less than a week before EFSA intervened.  “Far too many Sellers of CBD Products simply make up their own variation of law and opinion without taking into account the actual laws surrounding the sale of these products”.

The CTA has built an enviable reputation and relationship with the UK government by working with those departments, choosing to work within reasonable rules and regulations instead of trying to challenge at all times.  By doing so the CTA has already influenced many departments and individuals and will continue to do so for the good of the industry.

Graham Durrant

Hemp Lime Spray

My name is Graham Durrant and I am a hempcrete contractor and green building consultant. I have been building and designing for over thirty years, working with all kinds of materials, but my focus has always been on how to build with the environment in mind.

After years of building and experimenting in England and France I decided in 2010 to study an MSc Architecture in Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies. My aim was to research a wide range of building techniques and find a low-carbon green building material to champion.

My research led me to the conclusion that hempcrete was a most effective material for managing moisture and regulating temperature in buildings. Hempcrete’s ability to lock up carbon rather than emitting it made it an obvious choice as a green building material, but the numerous additional advantages of the material have made championing it an easy choice. I have been a hempcrete contractor ever since, working on new-builds and renovations throughout the UK and training volunteers from several different countries.

I was Operations Manager for The Limecrete Company, running all their hempcrete projects from 2012. In 2015 I set up my own contracting company, Hemp-Lime Spray, to further develop how we install hempcrete into buildings and to provide technical support for other hempcrete builders. Alongside my work on site I am the English speaking agent for the 3CM hempcrete spray machine and provide training to develop a successful hempcrete building operation. I am a co-director of HempTank, a UK-based think tank for hemp education and policy development.

COLLECTIVE HEMP LOGO FA ø

RALPH MORGAN

COLLECTIVE HEMP BRANDS

Ralph Morgan’s decade worth of experience in the cannabis sector started in Colorado — the epicenter and birthplace of America’s modern legalization efforts. It was at this time in 2010 when Morgan co-founded Organa Labs, a Co2 extraction facility; this was an industry game-changer and other extraction techniques and facilities would follow in its steps.

In 2012, he co-founded O.penVAPE, one of the most recognized cannabis brands in the nation that earned the moniker “O Pens” as slang. Climbing to become one of America’s largest cannabis companies, O.penVAPE’s parent company Organa Brands sold a product line every nine seconds. It quickly became known as the “Procter & Gamble” of cannabis for its consumer-facing and consumer-friendly product lines.

Canopy-backed Slang Worldwide acquired Organa Brands, then taking the stock public on the Canadian Securities Exchange in January of this year with a valuation of $600 million Canadian dollars.

The success of the Organa/Slang IPO gave Morgan the opportunity to create a company that would reflect his passion and interest in the medical efficacy of cannabis as well as the ability to create a corporation that stands for elevating consumers’ social conscious.

Morgan is now pursuing his second venture, a hemp and cannabinoid-based wellness company called Collective Hemp Brands, launching first in Europe and the US. Other product launches will include CBD-based skincare and sunscreen lines to pet health. Our goal is to redefine the way the world views hemp and cannabinoids and to deliver natural alternative health products to fit every lifestyle. As part of its commitment to green practices, the company works with vendors and suppliers that make a conscious effort to integrate sustainable practices into their manufacturing facilities.

European Legal Panel: Robert Jappie UK, Michael Weidner GER, Sine Selman CH

EUROPEAN LEGAL PANEL OVERVIEW:

Cannabis in Europe is booming. Sure, the UK is a great country to sell to. But Europe (not just the EU) has a population of 700 million people. That’s a huge market to be able to sell CBD products to. Companies from the US and Canada are ramping up operations and with Europe’s cannabis market is estimated to be worth up to €123bn by 2028, it’s easy to see why.

Any sensible company, whether entering the market or already well established, should have a European strategy. Cannabis regulation differs from country to country, so it is important to have specific advice from experts on the ground to ensure that your company is compliant in each jurisdiction it operates. This panel has been assembled to bring you the most current legal update on the European CBD industry. Legal specialists from the UK, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland will discuss and debate the regulatory challenges currently facing the sector.

the-jack-herer-foundation

DAN HERER

Jack Herer Foundation

Director

Dan Herer, son of the legendary hemp advocate Jack Herer, was born into the hemp movement. Today, Dan carries on his late father’s legacy yet on his own terms and in his own way.

Herer (Dan) balances multiple roles as an industrial hemp developer, hemp entrepreneur, and is the Director of the California-based Jack Herer Foundation.

If Jack Herer could be called a “warrior” and “activist” for the movement, which he was, Dan carries the family torch in hemp advocacy in the role of an “educator” and “influencer.”

These titles are appropriate and reverent for today. When Jack was working to advance hemp and cannabis policy by championing a people’s uprising when it (cannabis) was an underground industry, Dan’s domestic and international work in the industry today is primarily in modern markets. The latter requires a new level of strategy and sophistication. Winning the hearts of minds of policymakers and voters starts with education, in Dan’s view.

One of the primary outlets Dan uses to impact positive social change for cannabis legalization and expand the uses of industrial hemp is the Jack Herer Foundation, of which he is Director. The Foundation leads with the philosophy that “hemp education will change the world.” One of its primary goals is to re-introduce the hemp plant’s history back into the educational system.

To deliver on this promise, the Foundation is currently developing a touring hemp education center and history museum. This effort will feature a mobile education center and mobile Jack Herer National Hemp Museum. Through these vehicles, the Foundation will take hemp education literally to the streets — touring the entire US and educating people about hemp and making the museum accessible to every city and town the mobile along the nationwide tour expected to launch soon.

With the recent passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, the Foundation has also been an emerging voice for farmers. As a Foundation brand ambassador, Dan works to communicate that hemp is a valuable crop with so many uses. Dan believes that if farmers can be convinced that the crop is valuable, they’ll grow it. The connection to farmers also restore hemp’s lost agriculture values due to years of prohibition.

In his early 30s and after spending all his formative years working with his father, Dan took a brief industry hiatus and pursued professional pursuits in home design and building, construction, and mobile electronics. Following his father’s death in 2010, Dan passionately returned to the industry, feeling the need to come back and help fill the void left by his father left. He currently lives in California.

Oliver Mammon (Taylor Mammon) – Mathematical accuracy , bioavailability and what it means to the UK Cannabis Market

oliver-mammon-taylormammon-headshot

Oliver Mammon

Taylor Mammon

My name is Oliver Mammon I have worked in the world of CBD for 5 years and I am currently chief infusionologist at Taylor Mammon.
Taylor mammon is a bespoke white label manufacturing service offering clients the opportunity to include CBD in any product.
We offer services to new brands as well as existing brands whom desire a unique bioavailable cbd product.
We pride ourselves in being able to create anything , as long as it effectively delivers cbd to a chosen receptor. Like our very own Willy Wonker cannabinoid factory.

At Taylor Mammon there are three things we do to ensure our products are effective. We use a good source of starting cbd. Taylor mammon has relationships with farms across North America , Europe and now Israel. We make sure a product is mathematically accurate. Taylor mammon is a stickler for math. And we make sure products have a maximum potential bioavailability. Taylor mammon ensures products are infused correctly with the correct carriers intended to target specific receptors.

I will be discussing all of these points in detail.

Further more. I will use this opportunity I have with you to discuss the power of knowledge and education when selling cbd. What you can and can say. What you can and can’t sell and what you can and can’t suggest.

We live in a world where we are governed by emerging regulation. The rules are changing as we are learning. And most of the time the rules are counter intuitive. The MHRA authorisation for this and novel foods applies to that. FSA , NHS everyone has something to say. And everyone has an opinion. And they all contradict.
The power of education when selling cbd is second to none. Many prospective clients will never make a purchase or they will purchase the wrong product. It out job to guide them and direct them, but we cannot diagnose and prescribe. I will also be touching Upon this hurdle, and the best way to discuss CBD.

The more we educate the less we have to debate.

JAY MIRANDA

ReLive Everyday

Co-Founder

Jay Miranda, Co-Founder of ReLive Everyday, a broad spectrum hemp extract brand has been in the industry for four years. He began his journey when we was hired by Healthy Hemp, a B2C website to monitor and maintain their social media accounts. Jay quickly became passionate about the industry as he began to hear, experience, and learn about the multitude of benefits of CBD and hemp. As the company looked to build a B2B wholesale division, it quickly became apparent that Jay would be the best candidate to take on that responsibility. In less than two years, he was able to build Healthy Hemp Solutions and bring them to over $4M annually in revenue. As he became more versed in the company, he and his partners realized it was time to create ReLive Everyday, a non detectable THC CBD company. They did this to address the needs of law enforcement personnel, military personnel and medical professional;s and to address the concerns of anyone else desiring to benefit from CBD without trace amounts of THC. ReLive Everyday has built a solid brand through strategic partnerships with the Autism Hope Alliance, The Realm of Caring, and Heroes Outdoor Therapy (an organization focused on providing activities for military veterans with PTSD). ReLive Everyday is quickly becoming a premium brand in the US market and hopes to become just as prominent internationally as the industry grows.

Tom Whettem / Guy Coxall – TrustCanna, Cannabis Product Certification to Protect the Cannabis Industry

The threat of legislative change that could cause irrevocable damage and the possible demise of the industry is one that should be taken seriously. While there is no evidence to suggest that CBD is unsafe, the trigger for a regulatory shift would be the point where public safety was to be called into question.

Unless an industry led adoption of good practice is forthcoming, the current regulatory departments that are under resourced, would not have the ability to address issue on this scale. This is when laws are created and industries are shut down.

The TrustCanna model was proposed by government regulators, has been consulted upon with the competent authorities and is intended to be passed to government once a working model can be demonstrated.

Our opportunity is now, to protect our Industry. We must seize the moment because opportunities like this only come once.

GUY COXAL

Guy Coxall needs little introduction when it comes to the legal cannabis/hemp industry. One of the seven Founder Members of the Cannabis Trades Association and the CTA Compliance Director, he is the go-to expert on compliance and regulatory matters concerning hemp derived products and the upcoming medical cannabis industry. Guy’s passion lies in re-establishing the hemp industry in the UK and he is already involved in R&D for hemp plastics, textiles and soil regeneration. HempTank are planning to launch a UK HempTour so as to provide an educational platform for the history, uses and benefits of hemp. “Education is the key to breaking down stigma and creating demand; with the right people, we can create a green industrial revolution here in the UK”.

The course will also review some of the most common CBD oil claims, and note some potential hurdles to making such claims in the near future and potential strategies for working around any such hurdles.

Special Guest: Dan Herer (The Jack Herer Foundation) – Ignorance and the Future!
